Larry Kramer
Larry Kramer (USA) is an American playwright, author, public health advocate, and LGBT rights activist. Throughout his life, he watched the people around him, including close friends and loved ones, contract AIDS and, on occasion, die from the disease. I 1980, he founded the Gay Men’s Health Crisis. This organization has grown into the single largest organization for helping those who suffer from HIV and AIDS. He wrote many plays about the LGBT community, on such play, called The Normal Heart, was written with frustration towards the bureaucratic apathy toward those with AIDS. In 1987, Kramer founded the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power, a big part of his political activism. This organization itself takes credit for many of the large public health policy changes and widespread recognition of people with HIV and AIDS. His involvement with the LGBT community has saved countless lives through its changes in health policy.
David Norris
David Norris (Ireland) is a gay and civil rights activist and independent Senator in Ireland. One of his largest achievements was to overthrow a major anti-homosexual law in Ireland after a fourteen year campaign, in 1988. Much like Patria Jimenez, Norris was the first openly gay person to be elected into an Irish office. Interestingly enough, while he is the founder of the Campaign for Homosexual Law Reform, he is indeed also a big participant in the Church of England. He was a candidate for the Irish presidency in October 2011, and had many supportive groups. However, he withdrew from the race temporarily, returning in September to find that he had lost most of his support.
Luiz Mott
Luiz Mott (Brazil) is an anthropologist, researcher, historian, and famous gay civil rights activist. His research focuses most on the homosexual community during the Catholic Holy Inquisition in Brazil, and slavery and lesbianism in the colonial era in Brazil. In addition, his publications about homosexuality in modern times have earned him much popularity, even causing some change within the perceptions of homosexuality of the Brazilian society. He is also to founder of Grupo Gay de Bahia, which turns out to be the oldest and main gay rights organizations in Brazil. He also was the Human Rights Secretary of the Brazilian Association of Gays, Lesbians, and Transsexuals, and additionally is a member of the National Commission on AIDS of the Ministry of Health, among many other organizations.
