Evans, Rachel. ‘THE ONLY FIGHT WE LOSE IS THE ONE WE ABANDON’: MEXICO’S FIRST OPENLY LESBIAN MP ON LGBTI RIGHTS AND PEOPLE’S POWER. LINKS: International Journal of Socialist Renewal.21 May 2009. http://links.org.au/node/1068
Inspired by the unfolding socialist revolution in Venezuela, Links seeks to promote the international exchange of information, experiences of struggle, theoretical analysis and views on strategies and tactics within the international left. This source is excellent, because it is a personal account by Jimenez herself. This is an interview with very detailed responses, and is very personal to Jimenez’s life, past and present. It very adequately covers Jimenez’s life and the turning point in her life. Rather, the lack of one, because she says herself that she always was a supporter of the rights of LGBT community.
PeaceWomen Across the Globe. ‘ELSO PATRIA JIMENEZ FLORES.’ PeaceWomen. http://www.1000peacewomen.org/eng/friedensfrauen_biographien_gefunden.php?WomenID=1102
PeaceWomen Across the Globe is an organization that aims to strengthen the influence of PeaceWomen in all contexts of peace, security and sustainability – because peace is not simply the absence of war. They seek to make the daily peace work of women worldwide visible. They want to incorporate women’s expert knowledge into all relevant decision-making and peace building processes. This article effectively portrays Patria Jimenez’s life and accomplishments and overall goals. It captures the essence of Jimenez’s spirit, and illustrates her cause. It covers her life, but not exactly the context or how her accomplishments affected specific parties or specific change. Social context is explained thoroughly. The article is very detailed, so it offers an excellent source of information about Patria Jimenez and her life.
Reding, Andrew. MACHO MEXICO ELECTS A LESBIAN. Ottawa Citizen, 17 November 1997, A13 http://www.worldpolicy.newschool.edu/wpi/globalrights/sexorient/1997-1117-ottawa.html
A graduate of Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Andrew Reding works on issues involving democracy, human rights, and public policy for the federal government, the media, and a public policy research center. This article described Jimenez’s election to the Mexican Chamber of Deputies, and then zoomed out the focus to how this election effects the Party of the Democratic Revolution, and then Mexico itself as it transitions from a heavily conservative point of view on LGBT rights, to a more liberal position. The article doesn’t have the amount of information on Jimenez that I had hoped to find, but the context in which the election takes place is very well covered by Reding.
